‘Autoeroticism’, Anna JANICKI, April 4th 2012

According to Anna Janicki, autoeroticism and autoerotic fantasies that disrupt functionality signify desire for recognition and inspiration that remain unseen and unmet by the other. Janicki suggests that the underlying factor at the basis of such cases is the compulsive repetitions of traumatic experiences in autoerotic life. Autoerotic acts such as masturbation bring out rousing erotic memories from the pain of rejection. These actions, which assume as a regulating function regarding shame and fear of degradation, sometimes transform into addictions. In her presentation, Janicki will share three case studies she has worked through employing this model.
