Dynamics of Belief Systems in the Individual and Society
The clinical and contemporary aspects of religion for individuals and societies will be discussed through two case studies. In the session, the meaning of the perception of religion as a representation of ego-functions, the various defence mechanisms which it serves for, its capacities and counter-transference manifestations as well as its fundamental focus and manifestations in society.
Ayla YAZICI is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who is a member of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) and the Psike Istanbul Psychoanalysis Association. She worked at Bakırköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital between 1991 and 2011. Ayla Yazıcı, who was one of the founders of the Psychoanalysis Unit at this hospital, worked in the general psychiatry ward until she established the Daytime Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in 2006. This center provided therapy and integrative services to individuals with chronic psychotic disorders, both for patients who are hospitalized and who are living in the hospital. She retired from the same institution in 2011. She currently serves as the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Psike Istanbul and continues to work in the field of psychoanalysis in her private office.
