\n\u201cAiling Body: Psychosomatic\u201d<\/p>\n

Freud says, \u201cThe ego is first and foremost a bodily ego; it is not merely a surface entity, but is itself the projection of a surface. The ego is ultimately derived from bodily sensations, chiefly from those springing from the surface of the body\u201d and talks about how the physical stimulation or excitement yet without a psychic imprint short-circuits and transforms into impulse. Green, on the other hand, states that affect (particularly aggression) is repressed and symbolization is hampered in face of this destructive excitement, and physical symptoms emerge consequently.<\/p>\n

Many factors play a role in the occurrence of physical illnesses, and that which occurs in the body is not independent from the psychic state.<\/p>\n

In an effort to understand the person\u2019s psyche, psychoanalysis strives to make visible that which has been repressed, unrecognized and unrepresented. In the presence of psychosomatic symptoms the body uses a language and this language can only be understood within an appropriate relationship of containment\u2014through psychoanalysis. Just like a dream or an action finding meaning during the process of analysis\u2026<\/p>\n

This year, in our symposium titled \u201cAiling Body: Psychosomatic\u201d, we will attempt to transform the pain of the body with its many aspects into psychic writing, into the word of the psyche. We hope you will also join us\u2026<\/p>\n
