The \u201cIntroduction to Psychoanalysis\u201d seminars organized by our Association are open to psychiatrists, and psychiatric assistants, clinical psychologists, psychologists, graduate psychology students, and psychological counselors who would like to study primary psychoanalytic texts and who are also interested in the practical application of the psychoanalytic approach in their individual or institutional practice. The seminars, which will be organized for the fourth time this year, will be conducted for two different levels. In the previous years, the \u201cBeginning Psychoanalysis\u201d had explored Sigmund Freud\u2019s theory of psychoanalysis, the encounter between psychoanalytical concepts and clinical practice, the multi dimensionality and diversity of theory and fields of practice through primary psychoanalytic texts with theoretical seminars and presentation of case studies. This year, in order to facilitate the learning of participants just getting acquainted with psychoanalytical theory and treatment, the seminars will follow books by authors who most succinctly and lucidly explore Freud\u2019s psychoanalytic theory.
\nAdditionally, the \u201cSecond Step: Case Studies\u201d seminars are designed around case studies in accordance with the demands of participants who have completed Introduction to Psychoanalysis seminars in previous years and would like to pursue more advanced studies.\u00a0\u00a0 .<\/p>\n

BEGINNING PSYCHOANALYSIS
\nPsychoanalytic theory, defense mechanisms, personality organizations and psychopathology will be explored in the framework of C. Brenner\u2019s An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis, N. McWilliams\u2019s Psychoanalytic Diagnosis and A. Freud\u2019s The Ego and the Mechanisms of Defense, R. Perron\u2019s What is Psychoanalysis?, and V. Volkan\u2019s Psychoanalytic Technique Expanded.<\/p>\n

SECOND STEP: CASE studIes
\nThis series, which aims to facilitate an exchange of clinical practice and a discussion of the clinical reflections of theoretical issues, will entail presentations and discussions of case studies shared by participants.
\nRecommended volumes for further reading:
\nSigmund Freud\u2019s Psychopathology of Everyday Life, Interpretation of Dreams, On Metapsychology, and other volumes; Anna Freud\u2019s The Ego and the Mechanisms of Defense; Melanie Klein\u2019s Envy and Gratitude, Love, Guilt and Reparation; C. Brenner\u2019s An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis; N. McWilliams\u2019s Psychoanalytic Diagnosis; Roger Perron\u2019s What is Psychoanalysis?; and Vam\u0131k Volkan\u2019s Psychoanalytic Technique Expanded.<\/p>\n

The seminars will take place between October 2011 – June 2012.
