The Civilised and the Discontented: How to Save The Piggy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

While dealing with psychic<\/span> existence from singular to plural, from individual to society<\/span>, Winnicott\u2019s descriptions of the abstract place that he calls \u201cthe place where we live\u201d is a thought-provoking starting point. In this presentation, it will be emphasised that this abstract place can be a temporal element in the individual\u2019s relationship with the plural. Winnicott states that \u201cwhere there is trust and reliability, we can speak of a potential space<\/span>\u201d. This space can become a space of \u201cinfinite<\/span> separation\u201d or it can also be a space that the infant, the child<\/span>, the adolescent and the adult can creatively fill with play<\/span> within a relationship of trust. Artistic investments that extend beyond the place and time in which we live, can transform this potential space<\/span> into a creative playground, thus reconstituting the space in a new and different way. The first example to be discussed in this presentation is William Golding\u2019s \u201cLord of the Flies\u201d which is the story of boys who are both supporting actors or heroes and antiheroes of the human psyche<\/span>: \u201cA baby can be nurtured without love<\/span>, but<\/span> without love<\/span> or impersonal guidance it is impossible to create a new, autonomous human being\u201d says Winnicott. If we consider from a psychoanalytic point of view on the fate of the group whose \u201ccapacity to be alone<\/span>\u201d is being tested, their fate would be \u201c\u2019to return to where they came from\u201d by quoting the words of Simon, who is able to confront \u201cthe chief monster within\u201d. The other<\/span> example to be discussed is Carmina Burana<\/em> (Songs of Bayern), which can be considered as a creation that operates in apres-coup<\/em>. In this piece of work<\/span>, the poems of the Goliards, which have become the symbols of rebellion, preserve their vitality in the potential field throughout the thousand-years-long adventure of humanity. After their encounter with Carl Orff\u2019s creativity<\/span>, they had overcome all prohibitions and bans and were able to reach our ears. Thus \u201cthe society<\/span> in which we live in the time in which we live\u201d is being constructed within continuously turning wheels:<\/p>\n

I go down, demeaned;<\/p>\n

another is raised up;<\/p>\n

far too high up<\/p>\n

sits the king at the summit \u2013<\/p>\n

let him fear ruin!<\/p>\n
