DESCRIPTION:PSYCHOANALYTIC VIEWS 8\n“Ailing Body: Psychosomatic” \nFreud says\, “The ego is first and foremost a bodily ego; it is not merely a surface entity\, but is itself the projection of a surface. The ego is ultimately derived from bodily sensations\, chiefly from those springing from the surface of the body” and talks about how the physical stimulation or excitement yet without a psychic imprint short-circuits and transforms into impulse. Green\, on the other hand\, states that affect (particularly aggression) is repressed and symbolization is hampered in face of this destructive excitement\, and physical symptoms emerge consequently. \nMany factors play a role in the occurrence of physical illnesses\, and that which occurs in the body is not independent from the psychic state. \nIn an effort to understand the person’s psyche\, psychoanalysis strives to make visible that which has been repressed\, unrecognized and unrepresented. In the presence of psychosomatic symptoms the body uses a language and this language can only be understood within an appropriate relationship of containment—through psychoanalysis.
